ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR DOCTORAL STUDIES

The admission procedure enables the applicant, who proves that he meets the specified conditions of admission to study, to become a student of the relevant study program at FFA. The basic condition for admission to doctoral studies is a second-level university education at the faculty or at another university (§ 56, article 3 of the Act).
The applicant must document the mentioned fact even before the admission interview with certified copies of documents on the education achieved. The Faculty of Fine Arts (hereinafter FFA) determines additional conditions for admission to the study program of the third degree in order to ensure that applicants with the necessary skills and prerequisites are admitted to the study. The specified conditions and the method of verifying their fulfillment allow the selection of applicants who demonstrate the highest degree of ability to study. An applicant with specific needs, at his request based on an evaluation of his specific needs [§ 100, art. 9, letters b)] will determine the form of the entrance examination and the method of its execution, taking into account their specific needs. The admission procedure takes place in person. If, at the time of the admission procedure, the study is being conducted using the distance method of teaching, the admission procedure can also take place via the distance method. Due to the application of the same evaluation criteria for all applicants for studies at FFA, it is not possible to determine an alternative date for the admission procedure. Doctoral studies take place in daily and external form of study. Admission procedure begins for the student applicant with the delivery of his written application to study at FFA. The dean of FFA will list at least two months before the deadline for submitting applications for doctoral studies the topics of dissertations that can be applied for as part of the admission procedure for doctoral studies. For each listed topic, the following is indicated: the name of the study program, the name of the supervisor, the form of study (full-time, part-time), the deadline for submitting applications and the date of the admission procedure. Administrative fee: €30.

Confirmation of payment of the admission interview fee must be sent together with the study application (a copy of the proof of payment is sufficient). The applicant, who pays the fee by postal order or non-cash payment, is obliged to show the original receipt of payment or an original confirmation issued by the relevant bank institution that made the payment when presenting on the first day of the entrance exams. The applicant must present a receipt for the payment of the administrative fee and an identity card during the presentation, otherwise they will not be admitted to the admission interview. We ask you to adhere to the presentation deadline, we will not accept late arrivals for the entrance talent tests.

The application for doctoral studies must contain the applicant's basic data: first and last name, date and place of birth, place of residence, name of the study program, form of study and selected topic of the dissertation.
o The application for doctoral studies must include attachments:
• curriculum vitae,
• officially certified copies of documents on education achieved (document on completion of the Master’s degree study program must be submitted no later than the date of registration for studies),
• an overview of the results of artistic activity: a visual portfolio of realized artistic works, projects and proposals;
• list of exhibitions, list of published articles or results of other professional activities, list of responses to these activities - responses, citations, reviews, etc. expert opinions, etc.;
• brief proposal of the dissertation project in the scope of min. 3NS/ 5400 characters in Slovak (Czech) and English (possibly German or Spanish), which must contain:
 ideological intention in terms of the topic of the dissertation written by the supervisor,
 philosophical starting points of the researched topic,
 methods and research objective.

Entrance exam for the doctoral study program

FREE FINE ARTS (FREE FA)

Entrance exam consists of the following parts:

o Evaluation of the applicant's portfolio, which must be submitted in print and electronic form and must contain the applicant's most significant artistic works, a short Curriculum Vitae, and a list of artistic and publishing activities (exhibitions, workshops, symposiums, published texts, etc.);
o Evaluation of the candidate's dissertation project in written form, which must be submitted in Slovak (Czech) and English (possibly German or Spanish), in the scope of max. 3 NS /5400 characters, including spaces and punctuation, in which the basic frameworks of the doctoral research are defined in the vision stage, where he formulates the ideological intention of his author's artistic research, in the context of the topic of the dissertation written by the supervisor, the philosophical starting points of the researched topic, the methods and the goal of the research;
o The debate between the members of the committee and the candidate for doctoral studies in the form of a discussion in which he orally defends his dissertation project, demonstrates his abilities and prerequisites for independent research and artistic activity and knowledge of the theory and history of visual arts with an emphasis on the given topic.

Evaluation of the entrance exam:

o Applicant's portfolio - must obtain a minimum of 20 points out of a maximum of 30 points;
o Dissertation project - must receive a minimum of 26 points out of a maximum of 40 points;
o The discussion of the committee members with the applicant - must obtain a minimum of 20 points out of a maximum of 30 points;
Total for all tasks - must get a minimum of 66 points out of a maximum of 100 points. An applicant who obtained at least 66 points passed the entrance exam, which represents 66% of all points that can be obtained. Entry exam for doctoral studies takes place in front of the admission committee, which has at least four members. The admission committee evaluates the result of the admission exam in a closed meeting. A record will be made of the result of the entrance exam. The dean decides on admission to the study program. The decision on the result of the admission procedure is made in writing within 30 days from the verification of the fulfillment of the admission conditions. It contains a statement, justification and instruction on the possibility of submitting a request for a review of the decision. An applicant who has received a decision not to be accepted for studies has the right to inspect the documentation of his admission procedure upon request.
